Common and John Legend win oscar for 'Selma'
John “Legend” Stephens and Florida A&M University alumnus Lonnie Lynn Jr., also known as “Common,” won the Best Original Song Oscar for “Glory” from the film “Selma” at the 87th Annual Academy Awards in California. “Glory” is a song about the struggle related to the civil rights movement in the Ava Duvernay directed-film Selma which was released earlier this year.

Justice Department to announce lawsuit against Ferguson PD
The United States Justice Department is in talks of suing the Ferguson, Missouri police department due to mistreatment of minority civilians. Attorney General Eric Holder, in a press conference Feb. 19, said he will announce the results of the department’s findings of the investigation of the Michael Brown shooting as well as further shifting of the protocols within the police department in reference to crises within the next few weeks.

Students injured in B-CU shooting
Three male students at Bethune-Cookman University received graze wounds from a shooting Monday night on campus before 7 p.m., according to The Daytona Beach Police Department. Investigators said a confrontation between two students could have led to the shooting. According to the Daytona police, the gunman drove up next to the school’s music building in a black SUV, started shooting and then drove away.

C-Span visits FAMU for Nationwide HBCU Tour
C-SPAN visited Florida A&M University, President Elmira Mangum was interviewed and students were able to ask representatives of the channel questions about their political coverage and internship program. C-SPAN is touring the campuses of the nation’s top HBCU’s for the networks 2015 HBCU Bus Tour series.

Raf Simons led viewers into a psychedelic journey reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” during the Spring 2015 Couture show. The hand sewn collection was magnificent and vibrant and left no room for anything boring. Within the garden of the Musée Rodin was where Simons selected to host the show; he was aiming for a “sensory overload” when he chose this location.

Positives and Negatives of Natural Hair
I was born on July 5, 1992 with a head full of curly hair, and at five years old I don’t quite remember why but I got my first perm along with my twin sister. After 15 years of countless hairstyles with relaxed hair from braids to weaves and bangs to different hair colors, my hair was fed up. My hair was over processed by color so I didn’t really have any other options but to cut it completely off!
